Effective Alternatives to Baking Powder for Your Recipes

If you enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, you’ve probably found yourself short on baking powder at the most inconvenient times. Fortunately, there are some great substitutes that can help you out. One easy option is to mix baking soda with an acid like vinegar or lemon juice. For each teaspoon of baking powder you need, combine 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/2 teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Another handy alternative is cream of tartar, which many of us have in our pantries. To create a DIY baking powder, mix 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda for each teaspoon of baking powder required. This works particularly well in recipes that have other acidic ingredients already included.
