How to Store Fresh Herbs for Maximum Freshness

Fresh herbs can elevate a dish, but keeping them fresh can be tricky. There are several methods for storing herbs, and their effectiveness can vary.

One popular option is to store herbs in a jar with water, like a bouquet. Just trim the stems and place them in a glass with water, covering the leaves with a plastic bag. Others prefer wrapping herbs in a damp paper towel and placing them in a sealed container in the fridge. This helps retain moisture while preventing wilting.

What techniques have you found to work best for keeping your herbs fresh? Do you have any tips or tricks that you swear by?

I usually go with the jar method too, but I’ve found that adding a bit of ice to the water helps keep them crisp longer. Also, if you have a lot, freezing herbs in an ice cube tray with a bit of olive oil works great for later use!

I’ve tried the jar method, but honestly, I often forget to change the water and they end up wilting anyway. Lately, I’ve been using the damp paper towel method—it seems to work way better for me. Just gotta remember to keep the towel moist!
